From the very beginning of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of characters, and a thrilling plot including celestial beings, evil spirits, and dark forces expanding in strength within Dol-Makjar.
Warning: Revealing details for Episode 3 of the new season are included.
The Soldiers Table Introduced
Episode 3 concluded with a huge suspense moment and revealed the premier party of characters who will split off from the main group to embark on their independent quest, apart from the other two tables.
The combat-focused team features the determined fighter (brought to life by Travis), Thimble (Laura), the strong-willed figure (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (the player), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).
Why Split the Party?
Considering an extensive roster, it was obvious from the beginning that having everyone at one table would be unworkable.
Hence, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Prelude, connecting the individual narratives before dividing into three separate parties: Warriors, Schemers, and Questers.
Characteristics of the Soldiers Table
According to the DM, the Soldiers table is for players who prefer a classically intense battle-oriented narrative style where non-violent answers are few and far between.
At first glance, characters like the hesitant healer the cleric might look mismatched, but the actions of episode 3 make it clear why these particular heroes are ideally matched for the combat party.
Reasons to Leave
For one thing, the team knows exactly where to proceed after a violent first encounter with The Crow Keepers.
An old friend of Thjazi—whose demise initiated the story’s plot—manipulated the enemy for his own means, entering the hidden lair, attacking the character, and stealing all the magical artifacts to sell off.
The traitor then cleared his debts and escaped to a secure base in the remote area, above the urban center, with Cyd close behind.
Character Drivers
Secondly, each member has a specific drive to leave the city Dol-Makjar:
- The rogue, as the companion and trusted friend, seeks retribution.
- The adventurer knows Timmony and warns that it is a nasty location.
- The warrior and The healer, having resisted his family’s wishes to kill the fighter and instead freed him, have no safe haven.
- Yet, their reputation as key figures in House Halovar could enable the party access locations they normally couldn’t.
- Furthermore, The fighter vowed a eternal obligation to The cleric for his salvation and will now accompany him wherever.
Fugitives
Lastly, all of them are sought by the authorities that rule the city for a multiple motives, making remaining behind dangerous:
- The agile adventurer and The character are notorious outlaws.
- Tyranny and Wicander betrayed House Halovar and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
- The target is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.
This means them no alternative but to head to the remote area in pursuit of the antagonist.
