Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one titles have been won on hard courts
A comeback Daniil Medvedev secured his first championship for 882 days with a win over Corentin Moutet in the competition final.
The Russian, a former number one, has endured a torrid season, winning just one match at the big events and suffering a meltdown at the US Open.
The player's unpredictability on the tennis tour - and struggles with his serving in particular - led to him falling of the world's top 10 and ultimately splitting with long-term mentor his previous coach.
Presently training with Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, he has gradually advanced in the past month - climaxing in a tightly fought competitive triumph over challenger Moutet.
This marks the player's first title after the Rome competition and maiden on a hardcourt after that period of 2023.
Success also means he has achieved 21 victories at twenty-one distinct events.
"It's the first time I am participating in a competition with my both daughters at once, so to secure a championship is really nice," commented world number 14 Medvedev.
"This victory is in dedication of my child my daughter, because the initial championship I achieved when my older daughter her name was born was for her."
The athlete, the past champion, had lost his previous six championship matches, comprising in that event earlier this year.
His retrieving play style and regular reactions on the tennis court had prompted observers to doubt if his skill to play at the highest level was finished.
However the athlete has made changes in the last few weeks, attempting to come to the net and play positively, supported by an improved service.
He recovered from a disadvantage in the initial set against the tricky opponent, securing four of the last five games to go ahead.
Both players exchanged breaks in the following set before Moutet, bidding for his first ATP Tour title, gained dominance to push for a decider.
Moutet rescued 4 early-game break points in a close deciding set before the champion secured a break to fifteen to serve for the match.
Appropriately, the winner secured the win with a point at the front of the court, with Moutet unable to control a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
