Authorities stated they were notified by a man who found a vehicle in Hanau smeared with reddish liquid

Approximately 50 vehicles have been smeared with what appears to be blood from a person in the German city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by police.

Vehicles, building surfaces and postboxes were vandalized, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they announced in a official communication.

Police state they were alerted during the night on Wednesday night, when a resident discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored fluid.

The liquid had been placed in the shape of a banned symbol, they stated.

Police then discovered multiple other vandalized automobiles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.

Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under laws banning the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.

Police say preliminary tests suggest the liquid was likely human blood.

"There is still no lead as to where it came from; investigators are currently not informed of any injuries in connection with the incident," they commented.

Local authorities announced they were trying "to resolve the mystery" and have asked to the community for tips.

An important official commented the incident made him speechless and needed to be addressed rapidly.

"This event hits the center of Hanau and revives the pain of the right-wing terrorist attack five years ago," he stated on social media, referring to the murder of nine victims by a gunman targeting individuals of immigrant origin in February 2020.
